(Gardner, Kan.) — On April 20, during Monday evening’s city council meeting, Gardner’s governing body approved a proposed economic development incentive policy.

The policy – developed under the guidance of Gardner’s Economic Development Council – informs prospective developers of the types of incentives available and potential application of incentives to fund development projects within Gardner.

“Adopting this new incentive policy not only shows our commitment to economic growth in Gardner,” said Mayor Chris Morrow. “But it also assures developers that we welcome their businesses and we’re prepared to work with them in their development efforts.”

With a policy ranging from bond incentives to tax abatements, the city expects to attract businesses that will help diversify its tax base, create jobs with competitive wages and ultimately improve citizens’ quality of life.

“Unanimously adopting this new policy shows that the governing body as a whole shares the same vision and goals for the City of Gardner,” said Mayor Morrow. “And that vision is to see our community revitalized and our citizens thriving in a safe and prosperous city.”
